Last year I wrote a post about how I needed to take some time out, due to

Hi.
ReplyDeleteIf you could involve something about raising awareness about the recycling in Selly Oak. It took the council weeks to reply to my message asking when the SO recycling dates were and the Guild's community wardens still haven't answered my messages. Because I live down an alleyway just off Dawlish our boxes keep being taken so we have to use the green garden waste bags for our recycling, which so far has been fine, but worrying incase they decide not to collect future bags.
Cheers
Yeah the green garden bags are good, they are see through and they can see what it is, a lot of people do that I wouldn’t worry about them not being taken away.
ReplyDeleteThe WRRG (waste management and recycling) is responsible for on campus and halls only see this for the areas they deal with http://www.environment.bham.ac.uk/waste.shtml
Awareness in this meeting was discussing how to make people 1. Use the bins on campus and 2. Use them correctly
Housing and accommodation services put out some information which can be found here..
http://www.has.bham.ac.uk/studentaccom/housingservices/community/recycing.shtml
But it is largely the job of the community wardens and council.
The community wardens are great in my experience; I have messaged them to find out what happened to your messages, which e-mail where you send it too? Hopefully it is a defunct one that is still being advertised.
However that being said, I think there is an opportunity for some crossover between the campuses recycling efforts.
The WRRG manage a help and advise section http://www.environment.bham.ac.uk/contact.shtml
And they operate environmental co-ordinators for each department
http://www.environment.bham.ac.uk/additional/EnvCoords.shtml
I have just messaged them to ask if there is any chance the community warden recycling information materials could be disseminated by this departmental network.
If you have any ideas for promoting recycling I would love to her them, bare in mind that there is not really and money around for this
Also you may be interested that there is going to be a sustainable living fair on campus on the 19th of march, with information about recycling, free bike workshops, do it yourself recycling workshops (wallets out of tetra packs), plants, vegetarian food and free bike fixing. Maybe you would be interested in coming along.
